Kent County Mobility Study
Kent County is growing—and the parts of the county with the highest and fastest growth are outside of the Grand Rapids urban core. Our townships and small towns are seeing new housing, jobs, and other economic opportunities, creating more demand for people to move about. While The Rapid provides transit services in the six core cities, most of Kent County has limited mobility services available.
The purpose of the Kent County Mobility Study is to understand the mobility needs of residents and begin to chart a path toward improving mobility options throughout the county outside of The Rapid’s core service area.
What is the Mobility Study process?
The Kent County Mobility Study began in June 2024 and is expected to be completed in the beginning of summer 2025. The study will be conducted in the following phases:
Current phase
The project has entered its fourth phase: evaluating and prioritizing a list of potential mobility solutions to address the gaps and barriers identified in phase two. This will be done with guidance from the Mobility Task Force as well as continued stakeholder engagement.
What is the study area?
While the study will focus on mobility throughout Kent County, emphasis will be placed on areas outside of The Rapid’s service area. The study will also assess connections to neighboring communities outside the county.
